When the salesman asked how hushpuppies got their strange name, he was told it came from soldiers who tossed deep fried cornmeal to their barking dogs to quiet them down, or "Hush, puppies." At the time "barking dogs" was another way to say aching feet. Since hushpuppies were seen as the way to cure your dogs from barking, the salesman's new line of soft suede shoes got their name.

I think I've already reviewed the pair of Pents I bought in black. So, when the opportunity presented itself, I bought them in this dark brown also! I LOVE these shoes despite their rather clunky appearance and stiff leather. The leather gives a bit after wearing for a few days but still retains durability. These are super shoes for everyday wear and come off easily for travel.
